Planet earth is made of matter and so are all the stars planets and moons in the universe. Matter material substance that constitutes the observable universe and together with energy forms the basis of all objective phenomena.

The mass of an object is the amount of material that makes up the object. A molecule is the smallest particle of matter into which a body can be divided without losing its identity. At the most fundamental level matter is composed of elementary particles known as quarks and leptons the class of elementary particles that includes electrons. Matter takes on different forms depending on how the atoms are arranged.

On earth the most common states are solids liquids and gases. Matter is defined as anything that has mass and takes up space it has volume. At a minimum matter requires at least one subatomic particle although most matter consists of atoms.
