Exactly equal in size and shape. The same shape and size but we are allowed to flip slide or turn. In geometry two figures or objects are congruent if they have the same shape and size or if one has the same shape and size as the mirror image of the other. For example if two angles are congruent the degrees of each angle are identical.

When two things are said to be congruent it means that all of their measurements are identical. Congruent if one shape can become another using turns flips and or slides then the shapes are congruent. Very loosely you can think of it as meaning equal but it has a very precise meaning that you should understand completely especially for complex shapes such as polygons. In this example the shapes are congruent you only need to flip one over and move it a little.

For any set of congruent geometric figures corresponding sides angles faces etc. After any of those transformations turn flip or slide the shape still has the same size area angles and line lengths. Equal in size and shape two objects are congruent if they have the same dimensions and shape. That seems simple enough but congruent figures need not be turned the same way or face the same direction to be congruent.

Congruent angles have the exact same measure. Sides are congruent when they are the same length. Congruent figures in geometry are identical in shape and size. A square that has sides measuring 4 inches will be congruent to another square that also has 4 inch.
